Resident Evil Remakes Land on Switch 2 With Noticeable Tradeoffs

Switch 2 is now home to even more Resident Evil games, and the trilogy of remakes has arrived on the platform. Having spent time with all three titles on Nintendo's new hardware, the results are a mixed bag when placed side by side with the PS5 Pro versions.

The remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 all run at a solid frame rate on Switch 2, and in handheld mode they look sharp enough to impress. Capcom has clearly put effort into scaling the games down without gutting their atmosphere. Lighting and character models hold up well, and the moment to moment tension survives the transition.

Docked, the compromises become easier to spot. Texture detail takes a hit, and some scenes show softer resolution than what the PS5 Pro delivers. Ray tracing is scaled back or absent depending on the title, and load times run a touch longer. None of this breaks the experience, but anyone switching between versions will notice the gap.

The bigger story is portability. Playing these remakes on a handheld remains a genuine novelty, and the Switch 2 handles it without the severe cutbacks that defined earlier ports. For players who value flexibility over maximum fidelity, these versions make a strong case. For those chasing the sharpest image and smoothest performance, the PS5 Pro still holds the crown.
