Putting ChatGPT-6 to the Test as a Personal Gaming Strategist

Putting ChatGPT-6 to the Test as a Personal Gaming Strategist

The idea of using an AI chatbot to plan character builds sounded like a gimmick at first. But after spending a weekend feeding ChatGPT-6 the rulesets, stat systems, and progression trees from three different games, the experiment turned into something closer to having a patient coach on call.

The first test involved a class-based RPG with dozens of overlapping skill trees. Instead of dumping a generic "best build" list, the model asked clarifying questions about playstyle, difficulty setting, and how much time I could commit to grinding. It then laid out two viable paths, explained the tradeoffs in plain language, and flagged a mid-game respec point I had completely missed in previous playthroughs.

The second game was a tactical shooter with weapon mods and perk synergies. Here the model's suggestions were less about raw stats and more about sequencing: which perks to unlock first so the build came online earlier. It also caught a conflict between two attachments that I had assumed stacked but actually canceled each other out.

The third test was the weakest. An action game with fast, reflex-driven combat exposed the limits of text-based advice. The build recommendations were sound on paper, but the model could not account for execution, timing, or the feel of certain abilities. It admitted as much when pressed.

Across all three games, the pattern was consistent. ChatGPT-6 excelled at organizing complex systems, comparing options side by side, and explaining why one choice beats another. It stumbled whenever the answer depended on hands-on feel rather than numbers. Used as a planning tool rather than an oracle, it earned a spot in my rotation, though not the final word.
