EA Sports Halts Development of College Basketball Video Game Amid Licensing Disputes
September 5, 2025 - 02:46
Plans for a new college basketball video game from EA Sports have hit a significant roadblock. Back in June, EA Sports announced intentions to revive its college basketball franchise, aiming to capture the excitement of collegiate sports. However, recent developments have led to the withdrawal of their proposal amid ongoing licensing disputes with rival company 2K Sports.
The decision to step back from the project highlights the complexities and challenges of securing the necessary licenses and agreements with various collegiate institutions and their respective athletic programs. The competitive landscape between EA Sports and 2K Sports has intensified, with both companies vying for dominance in the sports gaming market.
Fans of college basketball were eagerly anticipating the return of this beloved franchise, which had been dormant for several years. The cancellation of the proposal leaves many wondering about the future of college sports video games and whether EA Sports will revisit the idea in the coming years. As the landscape evolves, gamers and sports enthusiasts alike will be watching closely for any updates.
