Minimunch put Claude Opus 5.5 to a direct test: build playable games from scratch, beginning with Fortnite Battle Royale. The results arrived faster than expected. Roughly three and a half hours after the first prompt, a browser build was up and running on very high settings.
The recreation includes a battle bus drop, loot boxes, building mechanics, and a storm that genuinely eliminates players. Two matches were played, and two wins were recorded. The core loop works.
Visual fidelity is another story. Character models and map assets still look rough when examined closely. Geometry is simple, textures are flat, and details fall apart up close. What holds the scene together is the lighting and color work. Gradation across the island is dense and layered, giving the environment a richness the underlying models have not earned on their own.
That gap between raw asset quality and final presentation is the interesting part. The lighting system compensates for weak geometry, making the overall image read better than its components. It suggests that for fast prototyping, smart rendering choices can carry a project further than detailed modeling.
The experiment does not prove that AI can replace full development teams. It does show how quickly a functional, visually coherent slice can come together when the right systems are prioritized.
