The PlayStation 5 emulation scene is moving quickly. A custom fork of the KyTyPS5 emulator has delivered performance improvements that reach up to five times the previous speed in Astro Bot. The same project has also pushed Marvel's Wolverine into a playable in-game state only two weeks after the title arrived on store shelves.
Developers behind the fork credit the gains to a reworked graphics pipeline and better handling of the console's custom hardware calls. Astro Bot, a title known for its tight platforming and steady frame pacing, now runs at a speed that makes extended play sessions possible on capable PCs. Earlier builds struggled to hold a stable framerate, with frequent stutters and long shader compilation pauses.
Marvel's Wolverine reaching the in-game stage this soon is unusual for emulation work. Most projects take months or years to move a new release past the menu screen. The team says the game still has visual bugs, missing effects, and audio problems, but the core gameplay loop is functional. They warn that performance will vary depending on the user's hardware and that crashes remain common in later chapters.
The KyTyPS5 fork is not the only effort working on PlayStation 5 emulation, but it has become one of the most closely watched. Progress on commercial games often draws attention from preservation groups and players who want to revisit titles without original hardware. The developers have not announced a public release date for the updated build, stating that stability and legal concerns come first. For now, the results stand as a notable step for a platform that many considered years away from running modern games.
